“Chained To My Ex” is a groundbreaking new program from the MSNBC documentary team featuring divorced couples who are stuck living together.
You may have heard that almost half of all marriages end in divorce. But that statistic tells you nothing about what happens after the paperwork is signed and filed. A growing trend shows many exes continue to live under the same roof, often for years and years for a variety of complicated reasons. Emotions, finances, children, co-dependency and a fear of starting over are just some of the factors keeping many people chained to their exes.
MSNBC has teamed up with the creator of the Emmy award winning docu-series “Intervention,” to create this experiential program that allows the audience to examine what divorce really looks like, with no filters. Being married and living together can be unbearable, but being divorced and living together? That can be true hell. And if something isn’t done, the dysfunction can become dangerous to the physical and emotional health of the whole family.
Enter Judge Michele Lowrance, noted author of The Good Karma Divorce, and one of the nation’s top family court judges. What each of these couples has in common is a desire to move on, but an inability to work out exactly how to make that happen. With the help of an introduction from MSNBC, Judge Lowrance meets with each couple to come up with a comprehensive plan to separate and start over. Whether they follow-through is something to be seen. And our cameras will be there to find out what happens.
